Star cricketer Rishabh Pant suffered multiple injuries after his car collided with a road divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway on Friday. The swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman was on his way home to Roorkie from Delhi.

The 25-year-old was taken to a local hospital in Roorkie before he was shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun.

Pant suffered laceration on the forehead just above his left eye. His back also suffered cuts after the cricketer, who is said to have been travelling alone, had to break the window to escape the burning car.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Dr Sushil Nagar, who treated Pant in emergency, the cricketer’s main injuries are on his “forehead and knee”.

“Pant has two lacerative wounds on his forehead, one right above the left eye; there is a ligament tear in the knee; and abrasions on his back.”

Reports coming in later suggest that he has fractured his leg too. An official of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), keeping track of the news, says besides the cut and abrasions, the dynamic keeper has fractured one of his legs. He may be brought to Delhi later for further treatment.

“Pant met with an accident in Manglaur in Haridwar district when his car hit a divider at 5.30 am on Friday. He was rushed to Saksham hospital nearby Rookee from where he was referred later to Max Hospital, Dehradun,” Haridwar SSP Ajai Singh said.

The accident happened at Mohammadpur Jat in Manglaur.

Former cricketers and officials poured in their wishes.

“Praying for Rishabh Pant. Thankfully he is out of danger. Wishing @RishabhPant17 a very speedy recovery. Get well soon Champ,” former India batsman and National Cricket Academy chief VVS Laxman wrote on his twitter handle.

“We are all concerned but thankfully he is stable. We at DDCA are keeping a tab and wish him a speedy recovery,” DDCA secretary Siddharth Sahib Singh said in a statement.

Pant played a big role in India’s two-Test series win against Bangladesh. He had scored a match-winning knock of 93 in the second Test in Mirpur.

Prior to that, in 2020-21 season, he helped India pull off an unlikely Test win over Australia at the Gabba. The win helped end Australia’s 32-year dominance at their Brisbane stronghold.
