Delhi defeated Chhattisgarh by 10 wickets in the Vijay Merchant Trophy (U-16) tournament to move to second position in Group D and qualify for the pre-quarterfinals.

In their last league match, at the Reliance Cricket Stadium in Vadodara, Chhattisgarh won the toss and elected to bat.

However, medium-pacer Pranav Pant’s five for 23 and left-arm spinner Raunak Waghela’s four for 64 helped Delhi bowl out Chhattisgarh for just 204. Opener Yash Kumar Varda scored 122 but no one else besides him could click.

In response, Delhi made 262 with opener Sarthak Roy scoring 58. Arnav Bugga chipped in with 37 while No. 3 Sachin made 39. Wicketkeeper batsman Shrey Sethi remained unbeaten on 44, Mohak Kumar hit 38 whereas skipper Waghela scored 26.

Kunal Soni was the pick of the bowlers for Chhattisgarh as he took three for 39.

A lead of 58 wasn’t too much and Chhattisgarh may have thought of winning the match outright. However, Delhi bowlers were in no mood to concede even an inch.

Led by pacer Laxman, who took five for 28, Delhi skittled out Chhattisgarh for a paltry 75 in the second innings. Pant took two wickets while Waghela, Udhav Mohan and Dhruv Chumbak chipped in with a wicket each.

The target of 18 was a cakewalk for Delhi as they achieved it without the loss of any wicket.

This was Delhi’s fourth win in five matches of the tournament with their lone loss coming against group toppers Gujarat. Delhi finished with 27 points.

They now face Himachal Pradesh from December 27 in the pre-quarters to be played in Chennai.
