East Delhi beat South Delhi to win inaugural Delhi Premier League

East Delhi Riders secured a thrilling three-run victory over South Delhi Superstarz to claim the first Delhi Premier League T20 title.

Mayank Rawat’s late onslaught, scoring an unbeaten 78 off 39 balls with seven fours and six sixes, powered East Delhi Riders to 183/5. Simarjeet Singh and Raunak Waghela’s three-wicket hauls then sealed their intense win on Sunday night.

South Delhi Superstarz faced early setbacks in their chase, despite keeping up with the run rate. Priyansh Arya (6 off 2) and Ayush Badoni (7 off 5) were dismissed by Bhagwan Singh and Simarjeet Singh, respectively.

Impact player Kunwar Bidhuri (22 off 19) was caught and bowled by Mayank Rawat, leaving South Delhi at 57/3 by the end of the powerplay.

Sumit Mathur (18 off 15) formed a brief 22-run partnership with Tejaswi Dahiya, who went on to complete a half-century.

Vision Panchal smashed 25 runs off nine balls, including three sixes and a four, but was dismissed by Raunak Waghela, reducing South Delhi to 109/7 in 13.5 overs.

With Tejaswi Dahiya regularly finding boundaries, South Delhi needed 26 runs off the final two overs. Dahiya hit a six off Simarjeet Singh but was dismissed two balls later.

In the final over, Digvesh Rathi (21 not out off 16) hit a six and two fours, but South Delhi Superstarz fell just short, finishing at 180/9 in 20 overs.

East Delhi Riders, having chosen to bat, lost both openers in the powerplay and were reduced to 27/2 in 4.5 overs.

Himmat Singh (20 off 20) and Hardik Sharma (21 off 16) briefly steadied the innings with a 24-run partnership.

Rawat upped the tempo and, together with Kavya Gupta (16 off 12), added 47 runs in 35 balls. Gupta was dismissed by Kuldip Yadav, leaving East Delhi at 116/5 in 15.4 overs.
Rawat then guided the team through the death overs, reaching his half-century in 34 balls. Alongside Harsh Tyagi (17 off 12), Rawat took on Ayush Badoni in the final over, hitting five sixes (6,0,6,6,6,6) to elevate East Delhi’s total.
