Faf Du Plessis
Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has been appointed as the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, starting on March 22.
Du Plessis will serve as deputy to Axar Patel, who was named captain last Friday.
“I am very excited. Delhi has been great, and the boys have been fantastic. I feel happy and ready,” du Plessis said in a video shared by the franchise.
The 40-year-old cricketer led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the last three IPL seasons but was not retained by the team ahead of the mega auction. Delhi Capitals bought him for ₹2 crore in the accelerated bidding round after he went unsold in the opening phase.

Last season, Delhi Capitals failed to reach the playoffs and finished sixth with an equal win-loss record. They remain one of the three original IPL teams yet to win a title, alongside Punjab Kings and RCB.
For IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals have revamped their coaching staff, with GMR taking management control for the next two seasons as per their agreement with co-owners JSW. The support staff includes Kevin Pietersen, head coach Hemang Badani, director of cricket Venugopal Rao, assistant coach Matthew Mott, and bowling coach Munaf Patel. Venugopal Rao’s brother, Gnaneshwar Rao, has also joined the coaching setup.
Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam on March 24.
