The iPhone 17 Air and iPhone SE 4 are among Apple’s most anticipated releases this year, with the SE 4 expected in April and the 17 Air likely arriving in September. Interestingly, speculation suggests that the iPhone SE 4 could serve as a preview of the 17 Air, as both devices are rumoured to share several design and feature similarities.

A recent leak showing a rear panel with a pill-shaped camera module housing a single lens has caused confusion among enthusiasts. While the leak was initially attributed to the iPhone 17 Air, the design also aligns with rumours about the iPhone SE 4. However, earlier reports indicate that the SE 4 may adopt the design language of the iPhone 14, whereas the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a more minimalist and streamlined appearance, omitting the dual-tone finish seen in some current models.

Camera capabilities are also a key area of similarity. Both devices are rumoured to include a 48-megapixel single rear camera, offering significant improvements over their predecessors. This simplified design aligns with the iPhone 17 Air’s focus on slimness, as it is speculated to be Apple’s thinnest phone yet, measuring just 5.5mm.

In terms of specifications, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a 6.6-inch OLED display with ProMotion technology, offering a smooth 120Hz refresh rate—a first for non-Pro models. Under the hood, it might house Apple’s A19 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM, delivering robust performance. Despite these advancements, the 17 Air is anticipated to replace the iPhone 17 Plus in the lineup, with a starting price of $899 (~₹89,900 in India).

The iPhone SE 4, potentially rebranded as the iPhone 16e, is set to bring significant upgrades to Apple’s budget-friendly lineup. These include a 6.06-inch OLED display, replacing the 4.7-inch LCD, and the A18 chipset with 8GB of RAM, promising improved multitasking and performance. On the photography front, the SE 4 is expected to feature a 48-megapixel camera, narrowing the gap between affordable and flagship models.

With their overlapping features and distinct positioning, the iPhone SE 4 and iPhone 17 Air are shaping up to be exciting additions to Apple’s portfolio. While the SE 4 targets budget-conscious users, the 17 Air combines slimness and high performance, setting new standards for mid-range devices.
