5 tranquil spots to witness October sunrise, sunset in Delhi

October in Delhi arrives with a winter chill, lazy sunlight, and skies brushed with gold and pink hues. It’s the perfect season to slow down and rediscover the city’s quiet corners, where the sun plays hide and seek with the town’s folk. Here are five peaceful places where you can truly witness October’s charm.

Sanjay Van, Mehrauli

Sanjay Van spreads over 700 acres of pristine wilderness, forming a part of the Aravalli ridge. At dawn, the forest comes alive with dew on leaves, the call of peacocks, and sunlight slithering through thick canopies. A watchtower close to the lake offers a view of the morning sun rising over the forest line, revealing a spectacular beginning to a New Delhi morning. Evenings are equally stunning, with the sun dipping behind clusters of trees and the air cooling as the temperature drops. It’s one of the few places in Delhi where nature lends a healing touch.

Aravalli Biodiversity Park, Vasant Vihar

Nestled within the ancient Aravalli range, this biodiversity park is an ideal sanctuary for those seeking peace amid pristine nature, just a few kilometres from the Capital’s centre. The park’s high ridges provide spectacular views for sunset and sunrise lovers, especially in October, when the sky glows in mild orange and lilac shades. As winter approaches, the weather is just right to take your motorcycle out of the garage and explore the city and its green outskirts.

Lodhi Garden, Lutyens’ Delhi

Lutyens’ Delhi is dotted with Mughal-era relics and manicured gardens that still carry the grandeur of centuries past, filling the city with traces of 16th-century Central Asian flavour. Lodhi Garden offers a dreamy setting for early morning walks and yoga sessions — now a favourite among fitness enthusiasts and history lovers alike. As the first light touches the domes and pathways, everything turns golden, creating an almost divine atmosphere for reflection and meditation. By evening, the garden glows under a gentle pink sky, with people sitting quietly by the lotus pond. It remains one of Delhi’s most graceful spots to pause and watch the day change.

Yamuna Ghat, Kashmere Gate

The Yamuna Ghat sunrise is a quiet spectacle. Temple bells, birds in flight, and boats drifting on silver waters create a cinematic calm. October’s soft light enhances the river’s beauty, turning each frame into a painting. Arrive early, before the city wakes up, to feel its stillness fully.

Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary, Tughlakabad

Spread across the southern ridge of the Aravallis, Asola Bhatti offers rugged trails, hidden water bodies, and panoramic views of Delhi’s skyline. The sun setting behind the hills paints the sky in rich orange and gold. It’s a perfect place for solitude, photography, or quiet reflection amid the raw beauty of the Aravallis.

In October, Delhi glows differently. Between the forest edges of Sanjay Van and the rocky ridges of the Aravallis, the city reveals a calmer, more soulful side — where every sunrise feels like a fresh start and every sunset feels like a soft goodbye.
