In a west Delhi area, a three-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by her neighbour on Thursday, police said.
The accused, a 27-year-old tenant in the same building, was apprehended following searches conducted in 30 locations across the city, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Jimmy Chiram.
As per the complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, the accused enticed the child under the guise of offering candies while she was playing outside her residence, police said.
Subsequently, the accused took the girl to his residence where the alleged assault occurred.
Upon discovering her absence, the victim’s mother initiated a search and found her in the accused’s home, distraught and recounting the incident, police sources said.
The victim received medical attention at a hospital, confirmed the DCP.
Following the incident, an FIR was filed against the accused under IPC section 376 (rape) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, police added.
Meanwhile, in another distressing occurrence, a 4-year-old girl was reportedly assaulted at a tuition centre in east Delhi by the brother of her teacher, prompting outrage in the locality and leading to protests, during which some individuals vandalised vehicles. (With inputs from PTI)
