The decomposed body of a woman was found in a bed storage box, wrapped in a blanket, inside a flat in Shahdara, Delhi, on Friday, according to police reports.
The flat’s owner, Vivekanand Mishra, aged between 55 and 60, has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated, police said.
The woman’s identity, estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old, has not yet been confirmed.
A PCR call was received at the Vivek Vihar Police Station reporting a foul odour emanating from a DDA flat in the area. Upon arrival, officers found the flat locked from the outside and noticed traces of blood near the rear door, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam.
After gaining access to the property, police discovered the decomposed body inside the bed box, wrapped in a blanket. The woman appeared to be married, as she was wearing red bangles.
Investigators believe the murder occurred two to three days ago, according to a senior police officer.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Mishra had visited the flat on Thursday night and Friday afternoon, sources added.
