A 25-year-old bus helper from Rajasthan, who was the sole earning member of his family, was allegedly stabbed to death after resisting a robbery attempt in  Shastri Park area of northeast Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Musharraf, was a resident of Alwar district in Rajasthan and worked as a helper on a private bus in Delhi, they said.

He is survived by his parents and sisters, all of whom depended on him financially.

According to the police sources, the incident occurred on the intervening night of June 14 and 15 when Musharraf was returning home. He was allegedly intercepted by a group of unidentified assailants who attempted to rob him.

“When the victim resisted the robbery bid, the attackers allegedly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene,” a source said.

Musharraf was later found lying in a pool of blood. After police received information about the incident, he was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police have registered a case of murder and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined to identify and trace the accused, the source said.

No arrests have been made so far.

The killing comes a day after another fatal attack in northeast Delhi’s Dayalpur area, where 40-year-old Rashid was shot dead after unidentified assailants allegedly fired around a dozen rounds at him.

Further investigation is underway.
