A senior police official announced on Wednesday that multiple investigative teams have been assembled to probe a significant heist at a jewelry shop located in south Delhi.

In what is considered one of the largest burglaries reported in the national capital, at least three unidentified individuals executed a meticulously planned break-in at the Bhogal area showroom. They gained access to the establishment by drilling a hole in a secure room, making off with gold ornaments valued at over Rs 20 crore.

The senior Delhi Police official stated, “We are currently convening meetings with these teams and have issued explicit instructions for a comprehensive investigation. These teams will operate under the guidance of senior police personnel, and we are diligently reviewing all available CCTV camera footage for crucial leads.”

The official went on to say, “The investigative teams are diligently exploring every possible angle, and we are determined to apprehend the culprits swiftly.”

The incident is believed to have transpired between Sunday night and Monday. It’s worth noting that the shop, known as Umrao Singh Jewellers, typically remains closed on Mondays.

Despite the presence of several CCTV cameras within the shop, they were mysteriously damaged around midnight on Sunday, according to police reports.

The sequence of events unfolded as follows: “The shop owner had securely closed the premises at approximately 8 pm on Sunday. However, upon reopening the shop at 10:30 am on Tuesday, the owner discovered the grave situation. Notably, the shop’s safe, located on the ground floor, is fortified with a substantial metallic gate and surrounded by walls on three sides,” explained a police official on Tuesday.

Upon inspection, it became evident that the culprits had tampered with the concrete wall of the secure room, creating a hole with dimensions measuring approximately one to one-and-a-half feet. A forensic team was promptly dispatched to the scene to gather evidence.
