The Delhi Traffic Police issued 14,160 challans and notices for various traffic violations during a week-long enforcement drive, with wrong-side driving accounting for the most violations, an officer said.
The drive was conducted from September 20 to 26 across the national capital Delhi, with 10,434 challans and notices issued against motorists driving on the wrong side of the road.
According to the traffic police, wrong-side driving poses a serious risk to motorists, pedestrians and other road users and was therefore a key focus of the drive.
During the period, 917 challans were issued for use of tinted glass, while 1,311 prosecutions were made against private buses, according to data shared by the traffic police.
“A total of 691 challans were issued for improper or obstructive parking and 438 for permit violations,” police said.
The enforcement drive also resulted in 76 prosecutions for SC violations, 63 for RC violations, 44 for disobeying lawful directions and 50 for not wearing seat belts.
Additionally, 136 challans were issued under other enforcement heads, the traffic police said.
