Delhi Police apprehend 39 under 72-hour crime crackdown

The Delhi Police apprehended 39 people, including alleged burglars, robbers, snatchers, drug peddlers, bootleggers and gamblers, during a 72-hour enforcement drive under ‘Operation Sajag’, an officer said on Monday.

The drive, conducted to curb street crime, theft, burglary, drug trafficking, illicit liquor, gambling and possession of illegal arms, also led to the detection of 15 cases of stealing and motor vehicle theft, she said.

Police recovered 16 mobile phones, including 12 stolen or robbed handsets, artificial jewellery worth around Rs 3 lakh, a gold chain and locket, Rs 78,000 in cash, 73.18 grams of smack, illicit liquor, four illegal knives and five stolen or crime-linked two-wheelers, according to police.

Four alleged illegal Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended from the Adarsh Nagar area, and deportation proceedings were initiated.

The operation also resulted in the arrests under the NDPS Act, Excise Act, Arms Act and gambling cases. Police said several accused had previous criminal involvements, including one alleged habitual offender with 45 cases and another with 16 cases.
