Delhi Police apprehends two men involved in forging letters from ministries

Two men have been arrested for allegedly deceiving people by providing fake appointment letters from government bodies, including central ministries, according to police.

Police said that the accused individuals have been identified as Khatri Iqbal Ahamad, a 50-year-old resident of Narmada district in Gujarat, and Himanshu Pandey, a 35-year-old resident of Kushi Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. They are accused of duping high-profile individuals by promising them positions on the board of the National Medical Commission.

They said that the matter came to light when Chandan Kumar, an Under Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, lodged a complaint regarding a forged letter bearing the ministry’s name.

The complaint included a copy of an order purportedly issued by the Ministry, which stated that the tenure of the NMC Chairman had ended and a new chairman had been appointed. However, investigations revealed that the letter was fake, as the mentioned file number did not exist and no such order had been issued by the Ministry, they added.

Following the investigation, Ahamad was apprehended in Vadodara, Gujarat, while Pandey was arrested in Lucknow near Charbagh Railway Station. It was discovered that Pandey had previously been involved in a similar case in which he and his associates were arrested in Rajkot, Gujarat, for cheating and forging government job appointment letters. Pandey was subsequently released on bail.

After his release, Pandey decided to target higher-profile individuals and collaborated with his associates to offer them positions in various commissions. Pandey, a law graduate, had initially come to Delhi to prepare for competitive exams, where he met a person named Raju from Kolkata. Raju was involved in a fake job racket and convinced Pandey to work with him. After Raju’s demise, Pandey started his own fraudulent job racket.

Ahamad, who worked as a clothes seller in Vadodara, had frequent visits to Delhi’s Karol Bagh area. During one of his visits, he met Pandey and joined forces with him in their illegal activities.

The two accused individuals have been arrested for their involvement in the fake job racket, specifically targeting high-profile individuals with counterfeit appointment letters. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal actions will be taken against them, said the police. (With inputs from PTI)
