Delhi Police has arrested a 23-year-old domestic help, who allegedly fled with cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs 40 lakh from his employer’s house in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar and later used part of the stolen amount to buy a motorcycle, officials said on Wednesday.

Police arrested Vishal Kumar, a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, in Aligarh, they said.

At his instance, police recovered stolen items worth close to Rs 40 lakh, including Rs 6.38 lakh in cash and gold jewellery weighing 50-60 grams, along with a pistol and 25 live cartridges.

The seized items also included a red motorcycle, which the accused purchased for Rs 2 lakh using the stolen money,

The theft was reported on September 11, after the complainant, Ankur Bhasin, and his family returned home from a function and found their domestic help, Kumar, missing.

The lock of a cupboard was found broken, with around Rs 10 lakh in cash and gold jewellery kept in a mini safe inside it missing, police said.

During the probe, police found that Kumar was recruited through a placement agency in Lajpat Nagar. The agency provided the documents submitted by him at the time of his placement, including an Aadhaar card bearing a Noida address, which police found to be false.
