Delhi Police’s ‘Operation Chakra’ leads to 193 arrests, 154 cases registered

Delhi Police has arrested 193 people and registered 154 cases under various laws during a 72-hour crackdown against criminals under ‘Operation Chakra’ in the North district, officials said on Sunday.

The operation was conducted from August 24 to 27. Police teams from various police stations and units carried out checking, patrolling, searches and surveillance at strategic locations during the drive targeting illicit liquor, drugs, illegal arms and gambling.

According to the police, 63 people were arrested under the Excise Act and 10,122 bottles of illicit liquor and a car were seized.

Under the NDPS Act, 21 people were arrested and police recovered 1.975 kg of ganja, 39.2 grams of heroin, 544 grams of charas, 240 buprenorphine tablets and 500 Avil injections.

The operation also led to the arrest of 22 people under the Arms Act and recovery of 22 knives, three country-made pistols and two live cartridges.

In gambling-related cases, 87 people were arrested and Rs 1.69 lakh, two mobile phones and playing cards were seized. Fifty cases were registered under the Gambling Act. Four stolen two-wheelers were also recovered during the operation. Further action is underway, they added.
