Delhi Police has arrested four people in connection with a road rage incident in east Delhi’s Preet Vihar, in which members of two families clashed after a minor collision between their cars, officials said on Tuesday.

Videos of the brawl on Sunday night, which have since gone viral on social media, showed members of both families exchanging blows in the middle of the road, with two policemen filming the act.

According to police, the altercation began after a car allegedly being driven on the wrong side brushed past another. The occupants of both cars, carrying three to four family members each, got out and entered into a heated argument that soon turned violent.

Both families were from Geeta Colony in east Delhi, police said.

The viral videos sparked criticism after two Delhi Police personnel were seen recording the incident instead of stopping the fight.

Following a preliminary inquiry, police registered a case against members of both groups.

“Four people have been arrested so far. We are checking all the viral videos,” a senior police officer said

Police also dismissed claims on social media that a baton (lathi) was taken from a PCR vehicle and used in the assault.

“There is no truth in the allegation,” the officer said.
