A 32-year-old man was shot dead near Phool Mandi on National Highway-24 in East Delhi, triggering massive protests and traffic congestion in the area, police said on Monday.
The victim, identified as Rohit, was a resident of Ghazipur village. According to police officials, he was found with a gunshot wound and was immediately rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident took place in a busy locality near Phool Mandi, a well-known wholesale flower market. The sudden gunfire in the area caused panic among locals and commuters. Witnesses reported hearing a loud gunshot before seeing the victim collapse on the ground.
As news of Rohit’s death spread, his family members, accompanied by local residents, gathered near the Delhi-Ghazipur border to protest against the killing. The demonstrators demanded strict action against the culprits, blocking the highway and leading to heavy traffic jams in the area. Many commuters were stranded for hours as police tried to manage the situation.
Law enforcement agencies have taken swift action, apprehending two individuals in connection with the case. However, officials have not yet disclosed further details regarding the suspects’ identities or the possible motive behind the murder.
