A 33-year-old self-proclaimed spiritual leader was apprehended by the police on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting women under the guise of offering assistance with their issues.
Vinod Kashyap, who also managed a popular YouTube channel, was arrested in connection with two sexual assault complaints filed at Dwarka North police station, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan.
“Vinod operated the Mata Masani Chowki Darbar in the Kakrola area and had a substantial following on his YouTube channel,” the official noted.
“In both incidents, it was claimed that he invited female devotees, ostensibly to aid them with their problems, and instructed them to perform ‘guru seva’. Subsequently, he sexually assaulted the women and coerced them into silence,” he explained.
The police filed two cases under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, leading to the arrest of the accused. Ongoing investigations are in progress, added Vardhan. (With inputs from PTI)
