Delhi Police have arrested two men in connection with an armed robbery at the home of a retired Delhi University professor in Ashok Vihar, officials said on Thursday.

The suspects, identified as Suraj alias Akhil (32) and Sachin (29), both residents of Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly orchestrated the crime with the help of Sachin’s girlfriend, who worked as a domestic help at the professor’s residence.

The robbery took place on February 17, when a group of armed assailants stormed the house, tied up the victims, and held them at gunpoint before fleeing with gold and silver jewellery, cash, mobile phones, and the professor’s car.

Following the crime, the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle near Wazirpur and used a cab to escape. Investigators analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene, which played a crucial role in identifying them.

Using technical surveillance and human intelligence, police tracked the duo to Gautam Budh Nagar and launched raids at their hideouts. Suraj was arrested near Crossing Republic Mall in Ghaziabad, while Sachin was apprehended from Gautam Budh Nagar, officials said.

During questioning, it was revealed that Sachin’s girlfriend had provided key details about the valuables in the house and facilitated the gang’s entry. The intruders reportedly used torn bedsheets to tie up the victims before ransacking the property.

Police records indicate that Suraj has 17 previous cases against him, including robbery and attempted murder, while Sachin is linked to 14 criminal cases.

A portion of the stolen items—including a gold chain, silver coins, silver bowls, and ₹8,200 in cash—has been recovered. The stolen car has also been seized.
