Two alleged members of the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang, carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 each, were arrested after a brief exchange of fire with the police in outer Delhi, an official said on Monday.

Police said that during the operation, two constables escaped unhurt as bullets struck their bulletproof jackets.

The accused, identified as Rohit alias Cheera (24) and Praveen alias Pinki (30), were apprehended near PVC Road in Tikri Kalan on Saturday evening following a tip-off.

“We received information that they would arrive there to meet an associate while carrying illegal firearms,” a senior police officer said.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the raiding team after being asked to surrender in an attempt to escape. The police retaliated in self-defence, leading to a brief exchange of fire.

During the encounter, two bullets hit the bulletproof jackets worn by constables Anuj and Harkesh, who escaped without injuries due to the protective gear, police said.

Both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were overpowered. Police said two semi-automatic pistols, three live cartridges, four empty cartridges and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from their possession.

An FIR has been registered at Mundka police station. Police said the duo was wanted in connection with a firing case registered at Bahadurgarh City police station in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, where a reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced on each of them.

Rohit was also found to be a parole jumper in a 2022 case registered at Narela police station in Delhi, police said.

Praveen is allegedly involved in six criminal cases, while Rohit has four previous criminal cases against him, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
