President Droupadi Murmu on Monday unveiled a magnificent 12-foot statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in a grand ceremony. This event also marked the inauguration of the Gandhi Vatika, a serene garden adorned with various statues depicting Mahatma Gandhi in different poses.
During the event, President Murmu delivered a heartfelt speech, emphasizing the profound impact of Mahatma Gandhi on the global community. She described him as an invaluable gift to the world, whose principles and ideals have steered humanity in a new and meaningful direction.
President Murmu went on to cite notable figures who have recognized the significance of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence, such as South Africa’s former president Nelson Mandela, Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., and former US President Barack Obama. She stressed that these influential individuals acknowledged Gandhi’s non-violent path as the way forward for global progress.
In her address to the gathering, President Murmu expressed her belief that the statues of Mahatma Gandhi in the Gandhi Vatika would serve as a powerful source of inspiration for visitors, especially children, who would learn from his life and principles.
Among the distinguished attendees at the ceremony were Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena and Gandhi Darshan vice-chairman Vijay Goel. This event not only celebrated the memory of Mahatma Gandhi but also highlighted his enduring legacy as a beacon of non-violence and change on the world stage.
