Currently, Chandigarh’s chief secretary, Verma, earlier held the top post in Puducherry.

Once he takes charge, Verma will oversee Delhi’s administration and the functioning of all departments. His immediate focus will include key priorities of the new BJP government, such as the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River, formulation of the new Excise Policy, Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, and other key projects.

Verma had previously served as Delhi’s finance and revenue secretary between 2018 and 2022, and as the principal commissioner of Housing and Urban Affairs at the Delhi Development Authority from 2017 to 2018.

He has also worked in the Transport Department and held several secretary and additional secretary-level positions in the national capital.

At the central level, he served as joint secretary in the Defence Ministry from 2013 to 2017 and also held positions in the ministries of power, and health and family welfare.

A native of Uttar Pradesh and an MTech graduate from IIT, Verma has over three decades of administrative experience.
