25 candidates provisionally cleared to contest DUSU presidential polls

A total of 25 candidates have been provisionally cleared to contest for the post of president in the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, according to a notice issued by the university’s chief election officer on Thursday.

The provisional list includes candidates from various colleges and departments, including Law Centre-II, PGDAV College, Department of Buddhist Studies, Campus Law Centre, SPM College, Lakshmi Bai College, Ramjas College, Sri Aurobindo College, Hindu College and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College.

The university also provisionally cleared 20 candidates each for the post of vice-president, 24 candidates for secretary and 19 candidates for the post of joint-secretary.

The nomination papers were subjected to preliminary scrutiny on Thursday.

The university said the lists are provisional and subject to further detailed verification, and nominations may be cancelled if discrepancies are found in the information provided by candidates.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations by submitting an application in person to the chief election officer by 12 noon on Friday, September 11.

The application has to be signed in the presence of the chief election officer, and candidates are required to produce their identity cards.

Withdrawal applications sent by post or through a messenger will not be accepted, officials have said.

As per the election schedule, voting for the DUSU elections will be held on September 18. Polling for day classes will take place from 8.30 am to 1 pm, while students attending evening classes will cast their votes between 3 pm and 7.30 pm.

The counting of votes will be held on September 19.

The university has also asked candidates to report any discrepancy in their names or other details in the provisional list to the chief election officer’s office by 11 am on September 11.
