Three incidents of murder took place in the National Capital Region in a span o 24 hours – two from Delhi.

While arrests have been made in two cases, the police have launched a hunt for the accused in one.

Ghaziabad

A 40-year-old jeweller was found dead in a car in Ghaziabad in the early hours of Sunday, following which his wife and daughter were apprehended on the charge of killing him, police said on Sunday.

During interrogation, the jeweller’s wife and his daughter confessed to killing him, a police official claimed.

According to the accused, the man was having an extramarital affair with another woman in Saharanpur where he used to frequent. The deceased’s wife claimed that he used to place video calls to her while being intimate with the woman, City Superintendent of Police (First) Nipun Agarwal told PTI.

The wife told the police that on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday she had an altercation with her husband during which their daughter allegedly hit him with a stone, leading to his death. They then put the body in the car and abandoned it in a deserted area near Raheespur village, the police officer said.

A police patrol car found the body in a pool of blood on the rear seat of the car around 4 am on Sunday. Documents of the car helped them in identifying the body. While checking their house, the stone and a cloth used to wipe the blood were seized, the SP said.

Delhi

A 40-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by a youth in outer Delhi’s Ranhola. The deceased has been identified as Jitender Mehto, a resident of Mohan Garden.

The incident happened on Saturday night near Tiranga Chowk. Mehto was eating ‘momos’ and the accused (18) accidentally pushed him and his plate of momos fell on the ground and an argument broke out between the two, police said.

The accused stabbed Mehto with a knife and he was declared brought dead at a hospital, a senior police officer said.

A case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered and the accused was arrested, he said, adding the knife was seized.

On the other hand, 48-year-old realtor, who was shot at allegedly by two unidentified assailants in north Delhi’s Burari area last month, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at a hospital in Delhi’s Burari, police said.

The victim, identified as Amit Gupta, was also a hotelier, they said.

The police said the incident took place around 12.55 pm on August 23. The assailants fired four times at Gupta and fled the spot.

No arrests have been made in the case yet.

Police suspect that jailed gangsters from Gogi gang targeted Gupta over his alleged links to rival Tillu Tajpuriya gang.

“During investigation, police found the victim was allegedly associated with Tillu, who was helping him get land in several area,” a senior police officer said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi had earlier said a police team found that Gupta was shot at by two unidentified assailants at Labour Chowk and was rushed to a hospital where he underwent a surgery.

He had suffered bullet wounds in his left leg and abdomen, the DCP said.

A case was registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) and provisions of the Arms Act, he added.
