Police in northeast Delhi’s Sonia Vihar area were alerted on Monday to an attempted robbery at a jewelry shop, in which four armed assailants attempted to steal a bag containing cash and ornaments from the shop owner at gunpoint.
The incident, caught on video and circulated on social media, shows four helmeted robbers trying to snatch the bag from two people, firing gunshots in the air, and then fleeing on two motorcycles.
According to a senior police officer, the robbery attempt took place on Sunday at 9:30 pm, shortly after Mohit Pandey and his father Rajesh Pandey closed their jewelry store. As they were leaving, four individuals tried to steal Mohit’s bag, which contained around Rs. 3,000 in cash, silver jewelry, and keys.
When the assailants were unable to take the bag, they assaulted Mohit and his father with pistol butts, causing minor injuries. Both were quickly taken to a nearby hospital.
At the scene, police recovered three empty shells and three live rounds, as well as a magazine. An FIR has been registered under IPC sections and the Arms Act, and the investigation is ongoing.
