Delhi experienced its hottest day of the summer season so far, as temperatures soared above 40 degrees Celsius for the first time this year on Friday.
Despite gusty winds and light rain throughout the day, the mercury climbed to 40.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the seasonal average, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In a sudden turn of events, parts of the capital witnessed light drizzles in the evening, marking a shift in the weather pattern. This surpassed the previous highest temperature recorded in Delhi this season, which stood at 39.4 degrees Celsius on April 26 and April 20.
Prior to the rise in temperature, the weather department had issued warnings of potential dust storms, thunderstorms, and accompanying light rain and gusty winds. Such strong winds were highlighted as posing a risk to vulnerable structures, makeshift dwellings, plantations, horticulture, and standing crops.
In response, residents were advised to remain indoors, secure windows and doors, and avoid unnecessary travel. Seeking safe shelter and staying away from tree cover were emphasized as precautionary measures to mitigate risks associated with the forecasted weather conditions.
Throughout the day, relative humidity levels fluctuated between 16 percent and 66 percent.
Looking ahead to Saturday, the weather forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms and light rain, accompanied by gusty winds ranging from 25 to 35 km per hour.
The maximum and minimum temperatures for Saturday are expected to settle around 39 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
