The Delhi Police, earlier today, detained several AAP supporters for protesting against a CBI raid at the residence of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The CBI reached Sisodia’s residence today morning to conduct a raid in connection with the alleged corruption in the excise policy case.

The party supporters gathered near Sisodia’s residence near Mathura Road to protest the raid. They were removed from the spot and taken to Vasant Kunj police station in buses for violating section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),  a senior police official stated. According to IPC section 144, when a curfew is imposed, gathering of four or more people is prohibited. According to police, section 144 has already been imposed in the New Delhi district, which is renewed every three months.

A call of protest by the youth wing of AAP was given in front of the residence of the Union home minister and defense minister. Consequently, precautionary measures were taken by the Delhi Police and barricades were also put up at several relevant roads.

Besides Sisodia’s residence, the CBI also carried out searches at the residence of IAS officer Arava Gopi Krishna besides 19 other locations after registering an FIR in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

According to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who took to Twitter to state the following, the CBI raid is a response to Delhi’s education model receiving praise and front page coverage in today’s New York Times.  However, BJP members have responded to this statement saying the central government only wants the removal of corrupt officials and practices.
