Air quality in Delhi satisfactory, rain likely

Delhi woke up to a relatively cooler Monday morning, with the minimum temperature settling below normal across all major weather stations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for thunderstorms with rain in isolated areas during the day.

The national capital’s base station at Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 24.9 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

Among other stations, Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius, 4.4 degrees below normal, while Lodhi Road registered 23.7 degrees Celsius, 3.3 degrees below normal.

The minimum temperature stood at 22.2 degrees Celsius at Ridge, nearly four degrees below normal, and 23.3 degrees Celsius at Ayanagar, 2.8 degrees below normal.

No rainfall was recorded at any of the five observatories during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday, the IMD data showed.

Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the ‘satisfactory’ category in the morning with the average air quality index (AQI) being clocked at 91, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.

The maximum temperature is likely to settke around 36 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
