Air quality poor in Delhi, maximum temperature likely to touch 43 degrees Celsius

Delhiites woke up to a warm morning on Friday, with the minimum temperature staying above normal across most parts of the national capital.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Safdarjung, the city’s base station, registered a minimum temperature of 24.5 degrees Celsius, 1.8 notches above normal.

At Palam, the minimum settled at 25.6 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees above normal, making it one of the warmer areas in the city early in the day.

In central Delhi, Lodhi Road recorded a relatively lower minimum of 21.8 degrees Celsius, staying marginally above normal. Ridge station reported 25.5 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees higher than usual, while Ayanagar in south Delhi logged 23.4 degrees Celsius, a degree above average.

Also, Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the ‘poor’ category in the morning with average air quality index (AQI) being clocked at 210, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.

Further, the maximum temperature in Delhi on Friday is likely to be around 43 degrees Celsius with the city likely to experience heatwaves across the city, according to the IMD.
