Almost Rs 168 crore spent since 2017 by Delhi govt to provide health facilities

Over Rs 168.43 crore have been spent by the Delhi Government for providing health facilities to over 4.27 lakh patients under its Arogya Kosh scheme. The amount was spent over a span of five years – from 2017 to March 2022, said officials. 

In a review meeting held by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia with the Health Department officials, he directed them to work towards ensuring the regular advantages of this government scheme to as many people as possible across the national capital.

Under the Delhi Arogya Kosh scheme, there are four programs which include financial support from the government for different surgeries, medical implants, and 136 types of medical tests. It also includes the Farishtey scheme for treatment of accident victims.

Under the Kejriwal government’s scheme, if any Delhi citizen approaches a Delhi government hospital only to encounter a waiting period, the citizen can avail the same services in a private hospital with doctor’s reference, but only if the citizen requires immediate attention.

Sisodia stated that cashless check-up and treatment will be provided to such patients in all the empanelled hospitals, cost of which will be borne by the government. “Under this scheme, every citizen of Delhi who has a Delhi voter card can get treatment. Children below 19 years of age can avail this facility on the basis of their parent’s voter card,” Sisodia stated.

If the last five years are taken into consideration, over 3.91 lakh people have availed free medical tests at private hospitals and labs.  Rs 67.34 crore for this were spent by the government.

One of the schemes under Delhi Arogya Kosh allows the city government to provide financial assistance up to Rs 5 lakh to patients. 5,028 people have availed this scheme in the last five years with the government spending Rs 47.61 crore.

Moreover, if a patient goes to Delhi government hospital for treatment and has to undergo surgery, but the waiting time is more than 30 days, the patient can avail free surgery in private hospitals. Under the scheme, Rs 24.37 crores have been spent by the government for 11,669 people who availed cashless surgery under the scheme.
