In a bid to enhance its research profile, Delhi University has announced the solicitation of short-term research proposals from faculty members across its various departments and centers for the academic year 2023-24.
The university aims to promote research excellence and will offer substantial financial support, with a maximum assistance of Rs 5 lakh, to selected applicants after a thorough vetting of their research proposals.
The initiative falls under the university’s Faculty Research Programme, operating under the prestigious Institution of Eminence (loB) scheme.
The program invites research proposals for projects with a duration of one year, and faculty members are encouraged to collaborate with other researchers as Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs), both from within and outside the University, including University of Delhi Colleges.
Faculty members have until July 31 to submit their proposals, and the final selection will be conducted by the varsity’s Proposal Evaluation Committee.
Delhi University has also outlined the maximum financial assistance available for various faculties and subjects within the institution. Researchers focusing on experimental sciences or interdisciplinary and applied sciences can receive up to Rs 5 lakh in funding, while those in theoretical sciences can obtain up to Rs 4 lakh. Social sciences, interdisciplinary and applied social sciences management, as well as humanities and law, are eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh, respectively.
However, the statement emphasised that the actual financial support to a Principal Investigator (PI) will be determined based on the nature of the proposed research.
To be eligible for consideration, faculty members must be in permanent service at Delhi University during the submission of the project proposal and should have remaining service until at least March 2024. Additionally, PI should not have taken leave for more than three months at the time of application or during the project’s duration.
The university also requires that all assets generated from the Faculty Research Promotion Scheme (FRPs) be entered into the stock register maintained by the PI and/or the respective department. (With inputs from PTI)
