The order on the regular bail application of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a BJP Member of Parliament, in a case of sexual harassment involving women wrestlers has been reserved by a Delhi court.

The court heard arguments from the accused’s counsel, the prosecution, and the complainants before making this decision. The judge announced that the order would be passed later in the day, at 4 PM.

During the hearing, the public prosecutor representing the Delhi Police asked the court to follow the law and impose specific conditions if bail was granted to the accused.

When asked if he was opposing the bail application, the prosecutor stated that he was neither opposing nor supporting it. Instead, he emphasized that the application should be handled in accordance with the law and the order passed by the Supreme Court.

On the other side, the counsel representing the complainants opposed the bail application, citing the accused’s significant influence. They argued that bail should not be granted, but if it was, strict conditions must be imposed.

They also informed the court that witnesses had been approached, although no threats had been made.

The accused’s defense counsel assured the court that they would comply with all conditions and that no threats or intimidation would occur. They contended that the law was clear, and bail should be granted.

The charge sheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was filed by the Delhi Police on June 15 under sections 354, 354A, 354D, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to assault, sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation respectively. (With inputs from PTI)
