Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was detained on Saturday by the Delhi Police outside his residence while he was marching towards Jantar Mantar to participate in the protest against the chief election commissioner.

The former Delhi chief minister earlier in the day slammed the Centre over the “worse than Emergency” security clampdown in central Delhi to thwart the CJP protest and the detention of the outfit’s top leadership.

“Three-time Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal brutally taken into custody by Delhi Police, for demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Modi Ji: how many people will you put behind bars to save Gyanesh Kumar?” Atishi, a senior AAP leader said in a post on X.

On Friday, Kejriwal had said he and his family will attend the protest and urged youngsters to join the demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the alleged “vote theft”.

Following the detention of CJP leaders on Saturday morning, Kejriwal said that by arresting “cockroaches” on their flight, Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed that he is “scared”.
