BioEnergy Global 2026, a three-day conference and exhibition on bioenergy and renewable energy, opened at India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), Yashobhoomi, on Wednesday, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and technology providers to discuss the future of India’s clean energy sector.
Organised by Meera Trade Fair Media Pvt Ltd, the event will continue until July 31. According to the organisers, the exhibition features more than 200 exhibitors and is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors. More than 200 conference delegates and over 50 speakers are participating in over 50 technical sessions during the event.
The inaugural session was attended by representatives from government agencies, public sector undertakings, industry bodies and international organisations. Speakers included Lt Col Monish Ahuja (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director of PRESPL and Chairman of the Confederation of Biomass Energy Industry of India; Dr Atul Mohod, Director General of SSS-NIBE; Dr Mohammad Rihan, Director General of NISE; Prafulla Pathak, President of SESI; Rasmus Alex Wendt, Energy Counsellor at the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi; Sambhaji Kadu Patil, Director General of the Vasantdada Sugar Institute; Ravi P Gupta, Chief General Manager (Alternate Energy), Indian Oil Corporation’s R&D Centre; Jennifer Doerper of Evonik; and Harmeet Singh, Chief Executive Officer of Kessels Steam Turbines.
The discussions on the opening day focused on biofuels, biomass, biogas, compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biorefineries, renewable energy and circular economy solutions. The event is being held alongside the second BioEnergy Global Summit and the fifth National Conference on Bioenergy India.
Speaking at the inauguration, Lt Col Monish Ahuja (Retd) said India’s bioenergy sector is entering a new phase in which collaboration between the government, industry and farmers will be critical. He said the participation of international delegates reflected India’s growing role in the global clean energy landscape and urged micro, small and medium enterprises to tap the opportunities emerging in the sector.
The exhibition also drew participation from research institutions, start-ups, public sector companies and overseas exhibitors, with delegates from several countries and diplomatic missions attending the event.
On the sidelines of the conference, Harmeet Singh, Chief Executive Officer of Kessels Steam Turbines, told The Patriot that biofuels would play a significant role in the global energy transition.
“Biofuels have an important role to play in the energy transition by providing a sustainable source of heat for steam generation. That steam drives turbines to produce reliable electricity, enabling cleaner power generation while leveraging proven turbine technology,” Singh said.
The exhibition will continue with technical presentations, product launches, business meetings and networking sessions over the next two days. Organisers said the event aims to promote collaboration and technology adoption to support the growth of India’s bioenergy industry.
