Delhi Police have filed charges against the proprietor of a women’s paying guest accommodation in the Mukherjee Nagar area of northwest Delhi.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening when a fire broke out, prompting the rescue of 35 individuals, including a four-year-old girl.
According to the deputy commissioner of police (northeast), the five individuals who were hospitalised due to smoke inhalation are now stable and expected to be discharged soon.
The police officer stated, “We have filed an FIR against the PG owner under IPC sections 336 (endangering the lives or safety of others), 337 (causing harm to a person through reckless or negligent actions endangering human life or safety), 338 (causing severe harm through actions endangering life or safety of others), and 34 (common intent).”
He said that despite challenges such as traffic congestion and narrow lanes, the fire department dispatched 20 fire tenders to the scene, with only eight managing to reach due to the conditions.
Fortunately, all occupants of the PG were successfully rescued, and there were no casualties, said the officer. (With inputs from PTI)
