Delhi woke up to a cloudy sky and cooler temperatures on Tuesday morning, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a minimum temperature of 23.4°C — 3.6 degrees below the seasonal average.
The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms and rain throughout the day, offering further relief from the usual August heat.
Rainfall over the past 24 hours brought much-needed moisture to the city. According to IMD data, Delhi’s main weather station at Safdarjung recorded 18.7 mm of rainfall. Other parts of the city also received significant showers, with Palam logging 16.7 mm, Lodhi Road 19.8 mm, and the Ridge area seeing the highest at 32.6 mm.

The early morning relative humidity stood at a high 98%, a clear indication of the moist monsoon air blanketing the capital. The IMD said the maximum temperature on Tuesday is expected to hover around 32°C, keeping the day relatively pleasant by Delhi standards.
While the rains brought some respite from the heat, the air quality remained a concern. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 102, placing it in the “moderate” category. The CPCB classifies AQI levels from 0–50 as “good”, 51–100 as “satisfactory”, and 101–200 as “moderate”.
Despite the cloudy skies and scattered rainfall, the city appeared to be breathing slightly easier, thanks to the rainfall helping settle airborne pollutants. However, officials advise residents to remain cautious, especially those sensitive to changing air conditions.
With rain likely to continue throughout the day, Delhiites can expect a cooler, wetter Tuesday — a welcome break from the typical August humidity.
