Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a state-of-the-art 66/11KV GIS grid power substation in Palam village (Manglapuri) on Tuesday, underscoring her government’s commitment to ensuring 24/7 uninterrupted electricity across Delhi.
The new substation, designed to serve a population of one lakh, is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the city’s power infrastructure. Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood joined the CM at the inauguration, highlighting the importance of the facility.
“Given the scarcity of land in Delhi, this substation, located in a multi-storey building, is perfectly suited to the city’s needs. It marks a significant achievement for the Delhi government,” said CM Gupta.
Minister Sood emphasised the substation’s safety and efficiency, noting that the gas-based grid is essential in addressing both land scarcity and operational safety concerns. It will also help resolve issues like line tripping and voltage fluctuations, he added.
The substation, operated by BSES discom BRPL, is equipped with a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, making it remotely accessible for enhanced monitoring. Sood stated that this development represents a crucial step towards positioning Delhi as a leading energy hub.
With a capacity of 63 MVA, the substation will meet current demand and future power needs, according to a statement. The facility is one of the most space-efficient in the NCR, incorporating advanced safety features such as a nitrogen-based fire suppression system.
Strategically situated in a rapidly developing area that includes Palam, Dwarka, Manglapuri, and surrounding zones, the substation will significantly improve the reliability and quality of the power supply for over one lakh residents. It will also support critical infrastructure, including a DTC bus depot and cooperative group housing societies.

The commissioning of this grid is timely, with the area’s current electricity load at around 35 MVA. The substation’s 63 MVA capacity will ensure sufficient supply both now and in the future.
Covering just 1,170 square metres, the substation is among the most compact extra high voltage (EHV) stations in the NCR. Due to space constraints, BRPL implemented a unique Ground +2 vertical design, optimising space usage and enabling efficient integration of equipment.
Attendees at the launch included Palam MLA Kuldeep Solanki, BSES Director and Group CEO Amal Sinha, BRPL CEO Abhishek Ranjan, and BYPL CEO Amarjeet Singh.
