Commuters can now shop from e-stores at these Delhi Metro stations via ‘Momentum 2.0’ app

Delhi Metro commuters can now conveniently secure their handbags or cameras for a few hours using digital lockers available at 50 stations through a newly launched mobile app. This initiative, introduced on Wednesday, makes Delhi Metro the first mass rapid transit system in India to provide such unique facilities to its passengers.

The ‘Momentum 2.0’ app, available on both Android and iOS devices, not only facilitates locker rentals but also enables online shopping from listed e-commerce companies through ‘virtual stores’ at 20 metro stations. Additionally, users can send couriers via smart boxes (digi-lockers) and purchase QR code-based tickets, enhancing the overall metro experience beyond transportation.

The cutting-edge application, a collaborative effort between Delhi Metro and AutoPe Payment Solutions Pvt. Ltd., has been in development for a year and a half. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to extend the ‘virtual stores’ and ‘digi-lockers’ to the majority of its stations by June 2024.

With a network spanning 393 kilometers and 288 stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida corridor and the Rapid Metro in Gurugram, Delhi Metro is a key transportation system in the region.

The app allows commuters to rent a ‘smart box’ (digi-locker) at any of the 50 specified stations, including prominent ones like Rajiv Chowk, Millennium City Centre Gurugram, and Dilshad Garden. Users can rent lockers for a minimum of one hour up to six hours, with penalties for exceeding the agreed-upon time.

The ‘smart boxes’ are installed in a grid format at each station, containing 83-90 digital lockers with a central console. Users can choose locker sizes (small, medium, or large) and pay according to the hourly rate. The entire system operates digitally, generating a PIN number for drop and pick-up of packages.

The app also facilitates online purchases from ‘virtual stores’ by scanning QR codes at metro stations. Users can specify the destination station for delivery, and the item will be placed in a digi-locker for convenient pick-up.

In addition to these features, the app offers the option to buy QR code-based tickets for all metro lines, including the Airport Line, eliminating the need for multiple apps and enhancing user experience. Users can also view and manage Delhi Metro smart card details, including recharging and transaction history. The app further supports utility bill payments, such as electricity, gas, mobile, and FASTag payments.

Moreover, the app provides station-related information, including the location of facilities, gates, lifts, escalators, platforms, and first and last train timings. Commuters can locate food outlets, ATMs, shops, kiosks, and more within the metro stations, enhancing their overall travel experience.

The DMRC formally launched the app at the Shivaji Stadium metro station, marking a significant step towards enhancing the convenience and services offered to Delhi Metro commuters.
