Delhi: A 25-year-old chartered accountant was found dead in a hotel near Bengali Market in central Delhi after allegedly taking his own life by inhaling helium gas, police said on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Dheeraj Kansal, reportedly left a suicide note both on social media and in writing.

According to officials, Kansal had checked into a guest house near Janpath on July 28. When hotel staff noticed that his room remained locked from the inside for an unusually long period, they alerted the authorities.

Officers from Barakhamba Police Station arrived at the scene, broke open the door, and discovered Kansal’s body lying on the bed. A gas cylinder was found with a pipe connected to his mouth, and his face and neck were covered with a transparent plastic sheet.

The police told PTI that three plastic pipes were attached to the helium gas cylinder found in the room.

A handwritten note was also recovered from Kansal’s left pocket, in which he spoke about the loss of his father in 2003 and mentioned that his mother had remarried. He wrote that he had no siblings and was staying at a paying guest accommodation in Mehrauli.

Before his death, Kansal had also shared a message on Facebook, which has since been deleted. In the post, he made it clear that no one should be blamed for his decision and insisted that he was neither depressed nor facing any life problems. One line from the message read, “Life did not give me a chance, and I will not give a chance to life either.”

In another portion of his note, Kansal wrote: “I am writing a suicide note in case my social media post is not seen or is deleted. I am leaving, and no one should be held responsible.”

He further expressed that he had no emotional ties and lived without regrets. “The saddest part of my life was my birth; death is the most beautiful part of my life. If you’re reading this, I’m already gone. I wasn’t deeply connected to anyone, nor was anyone to me. There’s no reason, no regret, and no complaint,” he wrote.

Kansal’s body was later handed over to his uncle and cousins. Officials explained that helium inhalation can lead to fatal oxygen deprivation, which is what likely caused his death.

The investigation is ongoing.
