In preparation for India’s 78th Independence Day celebrations, Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Saturday issued a formal order banning the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms across the national capital from August 2 to August 16. The restriction is part of heightened security measures ahead of the August 15 celebrations, especially around the Red Fort where the main national event will take place.
According to the order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, flying of aerial objects such as drones, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), UASs (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), paragliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, quadcopters, small-sized powered aircraft, and other remotely piloted aircraft is strictly prohibited.
The order cites serious security concerns, noting that these devices could be misused by anti-social or terrorist elements to threaten public safety, VIP security, or critical infrastructure in Delhi during the sensitive pre-Independence Day period. Officials say such platforms can be used for airborne attacks, surveillance, or para-jumping missions.

This is Commissioner Singh’s first major directive since assuming office, underscoring the emphasis on national security. The ban will remain in effect for 15 days unless withdrawn earlier.
Violators of the ban may face legal action under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, as authorities aim to maintain strict enforcement of the directive.
Delhi Police and other security agencies are already on high alert, with surveillance and patrols intensified across key locations in the city. The move is part of a larger security protocol to ensure that Independence Day celebrations proceed without disruption or incident.
