A local EMU train bound for Delhi experienced a derailment incident on Sunday in close proximity to Pragati Maidan, where the G20 Summit was scheduled to take place, as confirmed by a senior official.
The derailment incident occurred at 9:47 am, affecting the fifth coach of the Palwal-New Delhi EMU (electric multiple unit) train. There were no reported injuries among the passengers. The official noted that the train was not densely populated, and all passengers were promptly evacuated to ensure their safety.
The derailment took place between Nizamuddin and Tilak Bridge stations, specifically on the down main line, as mentioned by the official.
A senior police officer reassured that no injuries had been reported, and there were no members of the public present at the scene. Railway personnel were dispatched to initiate the necessary repairs.
In anticipation of the upcoming G20 Summit scheduled for September 9-10, the Northern Railway has provided a list of more than 300 trains that will experience service disruptions. These disruptions include the termination of services for 207 trains, changes in terminal stations for 15 trains, and the diversion of routes for six trains.
Additionally, to alleviate any inconvenience caused to passengers during this period, the official statement also announced that 70 trains, such as the Jammu Tawi-New Delhi Rajdhani, Tejas Rajdhani Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Varanasi-New Delhi Tejas Rajdhani, will have additional stoppage stations. This measure is aimed at minimizing any disruptions to passengers’ travel plans.
