The five-day Budget session of the Delhi Assembly commenced on Monday with a ‘Kheer’ ceremony, where BJP leaders emphasised that sweetness represents progress.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, is set to present the first budget of a BJP-led Delhi government in over 26 years.
Highlighting the significance of the session, Minister Kapil Mishra remarked that the event carries historical importance.
“People from all walks of life—businessmen, auto drivers, and members of the Dalit community—are coming together to share ‘Kheer’ today. The budget will be presented tomorrow,” he stated.
BJP leader Satish Upadhyay extended his best wishes to the chief minister, noting that the budget embodies a vision for Delhi’s progress. He stressed that CM Gupta has actively sought input from various sections of society, including women, youth, business owners, and residents, to shape the financial plan.

“Sweetness signifies progress. The chief minister is conveying that Delhi’s development is on the right track. This budget reflects the voices of diverse communities, ensuring inclusivity in the governance process. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we are committed to fostering holistic growth,” Upadhyay added.
The BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 26 years follows its victory over AAP in last month’s Assembly elections.
