Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced special financial assistance worth several thousand crore rupees to the MCD to strengthen roads, sanitation, schools and civic facilities across the national capital, an official statement said.
It said allocations have also been made under the Chief Minister’s Development Fund.
According to the official statement, sanitation services and maintenance of roads below 60 feet fall under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Proposals worth approximately Rs 1,330 crore have been prepared for 2026-27 for paving, repair and strengthening of nearly 1,000 kilometres of roads.
The statement added that all major works should be completed by September 30, to curb dust pollution, especially during October and November.
To modernise sanitation and provide a sustainable solution for pollution control, a Rs 2,300 crore 10-year OPEX model project has been approved. The project includes deployment of 70 additional mechanical road-sweeping machines and 1,000 electric litter pickers, it said.
An additional Rs 50 crore has been earmarked for the upgradation of MCD primary schools and Rs 50 crore for the repair of 298 community buildings, largely used by economically weaker sections, the statement said.
“Empowering local bodies is the government’s priority for development,” Gupta said, adding that the fiscal support reflects a commitment to decentralised governance and long-term improvement in citizens’ quality of life.
