The Delhi Commission for Women’s 181 helpline has recorded a significant influx of more than 630,000 calls spanning from July 2022 to June 2023, according to its chief Swati Maliwal.

During a press conference held in the city, Maliwal conveyed that the helpline managed to document 92,004 instances categorised as “unique cases.” These included matters like domestic violence, conflicts with neighbors, incidents of rape and sexual assault, cases falling under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, instances of kidnapping, and reports of cybercrimes.

Maliwal highlighted that the operational effectiveness of the helpline was fortified by an on-ground support team.

Functioning as a round-the-clock service, the 181 hotline, administered by the Delhi Commission for Women, serves as a lifeline for women in distress. Callers are provided with counseling, and if deemed necessary, their grievances are directed to relevant authorities such as the Delhi Police, medical facilities, and shelter homes to initiate redressal measures.

In the majority of instances, a group of counselors is dispatched to personally connect with the distressed individuals in order to extend their support and assistance. (With inputs from PTI)
