Amanatullah Khan
The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan. Earlier in the day, the court had reserved its order in the matter after seeking clarification from both Delhi Police and the defence counsel.
Special Judge Jitendra Singh presided over the hearing. Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Atul Shrivastava informed the court that six cases against the accused are under investigation, while five cases are pending trial.
Meanwhile, the defence counsel argued that the High Court had placed a stay on two of the cases pending trial and that there was no conviction against Khan.
The case against Khan was registered in connection with an incident in the Jamia Nagar area, where he allegedly obstructed public servants from arresting a proclaimed offender, Shavej Khan, on February 10. He was granted interim protection and directed to join the investigation on February 13.
On Monday, the court extended the interim protection granted to Khan.
Delhi Police submitted CCTV footage and witness statements for the court’s consideration regarding the case, in which the Okhla MLA is accused of obstructing the arrest of Shavej Khan. Additionally, Delhi Police filed a status report on Monday.
Khan had moved an anticipatory bail plea before the Rouse Avenue Court. While passing its order on February 13, the court had instructed the police to conduct the interrogation under CCTV surveillance.
