Delhi election results: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Virender Singh Kadian emerged victorious in a closely contested electoral battle, securing 22,191 votes and defeating Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Bhuvan Tanwar by a margin of 2,029 votes.

Bhuvan Tanwar, the BJP candidate, garnered 20,162 votes, falling short of victory. Meanwhile, Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Pradeep Kumar Upmanyu suffered a significant setback, managing only 4,252 votes, trailing by 17,939 votes from the winning candidate.

Kadian’s win marks a significant gain for AAP in the constituency, reflecting the party’s continued influence among voters. The BJP’s loss, despite a competitive performance, signals a tough contest in the region, while the Congress’s poor show underscores its struggle to regain footing.

Delhi Cantt is known for its diverse electorate, comprising both civilian and military voters, and plays a crucial role in shaping Delhi’s political landscape. This constituency falls under the New Delhi parliamentary seat, which BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj won in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, defeating AAP’s Somnath Bharti with a margin of 78,370 votes.

Being a strategically significant constituency, Delhi Cantt has a unique voter demographic, including a large defence personnel population alongside civilian residents. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP’s Virender Singh Kadian won the seat with 46,411 votes, securing a vote share of 52.78%. He defeated BJP’s Manish Singh, who received 34,831 votes (39.59%), with a winning margin of 11,580 votes.

The voter turnout in Delhi Cantt during the 2020 elections stood at 59.3%. The recent elections, held on February 5, 2025, have once again demonstrated the constituency’s role as a crucial battleground in Delhi’s evolving political scenario.
