Delhi Fire: A fire broke out in a bank on Saturday morning in Delhi’s Daryaganj area, an official of the fire services said.

According to the DFS, the incident occurred at 9:25 am at the Axis Bank located opposite Golcha Cinema. A total of four fire tenders were rushed to the place, he said.

“The fire was extinguished at 10:10 am, which was caught in the air-conditioner, furniture and documents at the mezzanine floor at the bank,” the official said, adding that no injuries had been reported.

Delhi has witnessed a 12% rise in fire-related incidents this February compared to the same period last year, with rising temperatures being a major contributing factor.

According to fire department data from February 1 to 24, a total of 932 fire cases were reported, including 240 incidents involving garbage fires.

In comparison, 834 incidents were recorded during the same period last year, with 148 cases related to garbage fires.

The number of casualties also highlights the growing risk, with 42 people injured and rescued this year, along with two fatalities. In contrast, February 2024 saw 16 deaths and 34 injuries.

The trend continued into January 2025, which recorded 938 fire incidents, resulting in six deaths and 38 injuries.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has linked the increase in fire cases to rising temperatures, reporting an average maximum temperature of 26.4°C in February 2025, compared to 24.4°C in February 2024.

With higher temperatures expected in the coming months, authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions to prevent fire hazards.
