Delhi gets light rain; ‘yellow alert’ issued

Several parts of Delhi received showers on Saturday, even as city residents contended with a humid weather.

The sky remained overcast for most part of the day with relative humidity at 77 per cent in the morning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The weather office said light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph, is likely over parts the city over the next few hours.

The minimum temperature on Saturday settled at 29 degrees Celsius, 1.1 notches above normal, at the Safdarjung observatory.

The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD, showers in Delhi are likely to continue till July 9.

“Cloudy conditions will prevail, and associated thunderstorm activity is also expected. Light thunderstorm activity is expected with wind speeds ranging from 30-40 kmph and gusting up to 50-60 kmph. Rainfall activity is likely to be on the higher side from tomorrow,” IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava said.
