The Delhi government has approved a Rs 125 crore integrated road and drainage revamp project for the Burari area, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Sunday.
Singh inspected the Burari Road and adjoining drainage works in northeast Delhi along with senior Public Works Department (PWD) officials.
“The objective is not to improve isolated portions of the road, but to upgrade the entire Burari corridor in an integrated manner. From the Outer Ring Road through Baba Colony and Nathupura up to Hiranki, the road will be improved according to the requirements of each stretch while drainage infrastructure will be strengthened simultaneously,” the minister said.
Under the plan, the entire 7.1-kilometre stretch of Burari Road will be improved through three clearly defined road sections.
The Outer Ring Road to Baba Colony stretch will be developed as a bituminous road, forming part of the 3.2-km bituminous stretch, while the section between the colony and Nathupura will be developed as a 3.9-km concrete (RCC) road at an estimated cost of Rs 39 crore, officials said.
The Nathupura to Hiranki stretch will be developed as a bituminous road, forming the remaining portion of the 3.2-km bituminous stretch at an estimated cost of Rs 9 crore, they added.

“Alongside the road work, a 9.3-km comprehensive drainage network, estimated at Rs 75 crore, will be developed to improve storm-water drainage and address waterlogging concerns,” Singh added.
Officials said the drainage work has already been tendered, while the road work is expected to be tendered within the next 10 days.
The minister directed PWD officers to ensure close coordination, timely execution and strict quality control throughout the project.
Meanwhile, local Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha of the Aam Aadmi Party said that he was not invited to visit the sites and that it was an “insult” to the people who elected him as their representative, as he has been raising this issue for a long time.
