The Delhi government has decided to extend its current electric vehicle policy until December 31 this year, according to Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. He announced on Saturday that the Cabinet has approved the extension, ensuring that all existing incentives and subsidies under the policy will continue.

Gahlot shared the news on social media, stating that the Delhi Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has approved the extension of the existing Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy until December 31, 2023, or until the notification of Delhi EV Policy 2.0, whichever comes first.

He also confirmed that all incentives, including subsidies, will remain unchanged. Additionally, he mentioned that Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is in its final stages and will be notified soon after receiving necessary approvals.

The Transport Minister had earlier highlighted the challenges faced by people who want to convert their internal combustion engines into electric ones.

He mentioned the high costs involved in retrofitting vehicles, such as a normal Gypsy, which can amount to nearly Rs 5-6 lakh.

The initial Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy, implemented in August 2020, aimed to increase the share of electric vehicles in Delhi to 25% by 2024. This policy had expired on August 8 of the current year.
